Prevention and Early Intervention
Most dental problems caused by tooth decay (dental caries) and gum disease (periodontitis) can be prevented if diagnosed early enough.
If your diagnostic appointment identifies that you are at risk then there are ways to treat early disease and prevent its progression, these include
- Modification of oral hygiene patterns
- Elimination of risk factors such as high sugar and acid consumption
- Materials to help with dry mouth symptoms caused by some medications
- Application of materials such as Tooth Mousse® and Fluoride which can reverse early tooth decay
- Fissure sealing of newly erupted teeth in young children
- Removal of plaque and calculus from the teeth
- Custom fitted sports mouthguards
- Occlusal splints (nightguards) for tooth grinding (bruxing)
