What is orthodontics and who is it for?
Orthodontics is a specialist area of dentistry that diagnoses and treats development problems with the teeth, bite and the jaw. It is suitable for children, teenagers and adults with crooked teeth, crowded teeth, poor alignment, bite issues and other development problems.
As a side benefit, orthodontic treatment also helps patients gain straighter teeth giving them a longer lasting confidence and a healthier smile.

When is the right time to receive orthodontic treatment?
Our consulting specialist Orthodontist, Linda works with people of all ages. Orthodontic treatments occur during one of the following four stages:
Early examination (age 6-8)
Treatment may come later, but an early examination will help to ensure problems are assessed and treated at the right time, working towards giving your child straighter teeth.
Early treatment (age 7-11)
Visiting the orthodontist during the early stages of development will enable our specialist to analyse your child’s growing teeth and jaws, to ensure that treatment is done at the appropriate time. Although many orthodontic patients are likely to be treated as adolescents, once permanent teeth have fully developed there are certain problems that are better treated at an earlier age.
Adolescent treatment (age 12-19)
Majority of orthodontic patients receive treatment during this age bracket, as permanent teeth are fully developed and are easy to shift into the preferred alignment. After carefully analysing your teenager’s teeth, Linda will recommend treatment at an opportune time, depending on your teen’s situation and level of development.
Adult treatment (age 20+)
Adults are often reluctant to undergo orthodontic treatment due to embarrassment, belief that the treatment will be painful, not enough time or concern about the cost of braces. In most cases we recommend and initial assessment of your situation, where we can discuss with you the options, costs and give you the opportunity to discuss any concerns.
Orthodontic treatment for adults includes: plates, braces, clear braces and clear aligners, and in more complex cases, jaw surgery if required.
If you or your child requires orthodontic treatment, we invite you to come and meet with Linda our consulting specialist Orthodontist for an assessment and recommended treatment plan.
